University Anthem Contest

A song to stand the test of time.

The Bicentennial School Song competition aims to shine a light on the talent within the entire Jefferson community. We are a community of creative thinkers and many of our alumni, faculty, students and staff have extraordinary talents outside of the work they do to improve lives every day. Jefferson community members from all business units, including patients, students, families and alumni are invited to create a Thomas Jefferson University school song that will stand the test of time.

Instructions

Submit a 60 to 90 second song that is shows school spirit in an uplifting and motivating way and can be performed in unison or in a four-part harmony by October 31.

Dr. Aldridge and her panel of judges will review the submissions and choose a winner to have their song recorded and performed by the Jefferson Choir. Additional prizes to be announced.

Frequently Asked Questions

As we proudly celebrate 200 years of Jefferson’s legacy in higher education, health care and community impact, we’re calling on you to help us create a new piece of history — the first-ever official school song for Thomas Jefferson University! The University Anthem contest is your chance to help us create an anthem that will echo through Jefferson’s halls for generations to come.

All members of the Jefferson community are invited to participate in the school song competition, including employees, students, alumni, patients and family members.

The school song should honor Thomas Jefferson University’s rich history and celebrate its bright future in an uplifting and motivating way.

All submissions must include the lyrics and a recording of the song so that the judges and the Jefferson choir can understand the melody. The composer of the song can enlist the help of a performer to record the song, if necessary.

The University anthem should not be focused on any specific program or college but should honor the University as a whole.

The selection committee is made up of a diverse representation of Jefferson community members.

Submissions will be judged based on four categories:

  • Celebrates Jefferson — Reflects the history, spirit and values of the University
  • Accessible — Easy to sing and remember
  • Timeless — Has lasting appeal
  • Musicality — Demonstrates musical quality and creativity

The judges will select a winner if they find a song that fittingly represents the University as we move into our third century. However, if they are unable to agree on a clear standout, they may opt to not choose a winner.
